There are more than 100 Miao subgroups in Guizhou, their traditions are similar but different. About 2,000 years ago the first Miao group entered into the mountainous Guizhou, lived and hided here. After that, more and more groups entered into, so did other ethnic groups. Guizhou was ever described as "Eight hills, one river and one rice paddy field" , it indicate 80% of Guizhou are covered by hills, and because of this, it attracts ethnic groups' coming. For long time, even among Miao groups, they have not talked to each other often, it causes their dialects, hairdresses, skirts, and costumes different, but similar. Today, we want to show the wedding cultures of some different Miao groups.

For the Miao group who are living on Moutain Moon

Because they live on high hills, which made their life and culture related to hills and forest. So their important gifts are mainly pigs, bulls or chickens.

In our Miao Wedding, we have a leader who leads eight young guys to visit the bride's home and spend one night there, drinking and eating for a whole night. Only the leader who can talk a lot, others in the group cannot, must  try to keep silent and just drink, and try to avoid making mistakes at her home. Next morning, they will lead the bride to her husband's home, and the wedding ceremony will start after they come back. The leader often carries an umbrella, a proud rooster or a beautiful duck and a big bottle of rice wine when they are visiting the bride's family.

In the wedding, the bridegroom could only stay home, waiting for his bride. He cannot go outside with the group.
