Guizhou Province is located in South Central China. It is an area of karst limestone scenery with mountains far bigger than its southern neighbouring province of Guanxi. Tree covered, mist-shrouded peaks and long deep valleys made this an inaccessible place and it became home to those marginalised in past battles lost. They were forced to the high ground to make a living from slash and burn agriculture and so remained isolated.

What Guizhou offers is wonderful natural scenery and a large number of ethnic groups that attract visitors wishing to see different cultures. The Miao (Hmong), Buyei and Dong are the three dominant groups but even within these, there are many variations in customs and dress.
Guizhou is still unknown to most Western visitors. For those that want to see China where people are still curious about outsiders, especially the groups from Europe or USA, Guizhou is a good option. Only in such an area, their festivals are the highlights of Guizhou tours to discover and experience. There are almost 100 plus festivals happening each year in Guizhou. Ethnic groups often cerebrate their festivals before rice planting and after the rice harvest, that means during Spring time, Autumn time and Winter, there are a lot of festivals activities. Only when local farmers are not busy, they can make their festival activities appear. In Guizhou's festival days, the ethnic group people wear their best dresses for it and decorated their hair with pretty silver ornaments. The famous festivals are Lusheng Festival, Sisters Meal Festival, Ancestors Worship Festival, and Bridge Worship Festival.
